Jeff Sessions Expresses Regret For Response To ‘Lock Her Up’ Chant

Attorney General Jeff Sessions seemed to express some regret for the way he responded to a “lock her up” chant at a speech earlier this week.

High school students at a Turning Point USA event began the chant Tuesday, and Sessions chuckled and said he had heard it often during the 2016 campaign.

“Well, I met I with a group of enthusiastic high school students and they spontaneously broke into that chant. Perhaps should have taken a moment to advise them that … you’re presumed innocent until cases are made,” Sessions said Thursday during a press conference.

He told the audience Tuesday he was happy to be among fellow conservatives, especially young ones who won’t back down.

The chant gained popularity during the 2016 presidential campaign referencing Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server while serving as secretary of state in the Obama administration. (RELATED: Jeff Sessions Drawn In By ‘Lock Her Up’ Chant)

Editor’s note: The headline and lede have been corrected to note that Sessions did not participate in the chant.
