President Donald Trump accused his former personal lawyer Michael Cohen of lying about the president allegedly having advanced knowledge of a meeting between his son and a Russian lawyer offering damaging information on Hillary Clinton.

Cohen is reportedly willing to testify to that effect to special counsel Robert Mueller, CNN reported late Thursday night. Trump seized upon the report with a forceful denial accusing Cohen of making up stories in order to extract himself from his own possible financial crimes.

“Sounds to me like someone is trying to make up stories in order to get himself out of an unrelated jam (Taxi cabs maybe?),” Trump tweeted. “He even retained Bill and Crooked Hillary’s lawyer. Gee, I wonder if they helped him make the choice!”

Trump has long maintained he had no advanced knowledge of the meeting between his son and the Russian lawyer which occurred at Trump Tower in New York City in June 2016. The meeting was set up by a former associate of Donald Trump Jr. with the purpose of obtaining damaging information on then presidential opponent Hillary Clinton.
