Eight of the ten most polarizing companies in the United States are news outlets, according to a new poll.

Trump Hotels come in as the most polarizing company in 2017, according to Morning Consult’s Most Polarizing Brands survey. It had a 78-point swing between how Democrats and Republicans view the president’s previous business venture.

Conservatives surveyed has a favorability rating of approximately 34, whereas Democrats had a significantly more negative view on the company, measuring around -44 on their scale.

The next five companies are all media outlets: CNN (66-point swing), Fox News (54-point swing), NBC News (54-point swing), The New York Times (51-point swing) and MSNBC (50-point swing). CNN, NBC News, The NYT and MSNBC were all viewed more favorably by Democrats.

Rounding out the top ten were the NFL, ABC News, CBS News and the Washington Post — all of which were viewed more favorably by Democrats, as well.

This could be used as an indication of the perception of partisan behavior by media organizations.

According to the Morning Consult’s Most Polarizing Brands, the survey “is based on 336,370 surveys conducted online from Oct. 3, 2017, to Jan. 2, 2018, among a national sample of U.S. adults: “Between 1,000 and 30,000 adults who identified as Republican, Democrat or Independent rated each brand, and the results have a margin of error between 0.5 and 3.1 percentage points.”
