Former Vice President Joe Biden is not well enough to be the keynote speaker at the annual “Democrat Day,” Thursday in Springfield, Ill. According to the Chicago-Sun Times, Biden’s doctor has ordered the former VP to refrain from attending the state fair due to health reasons. Biden’s presence at the event had apparently generated increased ticket sales, necessitating the use of another room for the overflow crowd.

Biden was scheduled to stump in support of the Democratic nominee for governor, J.B. Pritzker, but local Democratic boss Doug House issued his regrets Tuesday night in a statement.

“Everyone who knows Vice President Biden knows that he gives our party and our country his all, but unfortunately he is sick and is under doctor’s orders not to travel,” House said in a statement.

In addition to promoting Pritzker, Biden rarely misses the spotlight himself as he continues to consider a possible presidential run in 2020.

“The cancellation is of course disappointing, but it is clear that the circumstances are simply unavoidable,” House said. “We all hope he gets well soon, and I’m sure he’ll be back campaigning for Democrats in Illinois and across the country in no time.”
