Frequent CNN guest Angela Rye questioned Florida Gubernatorial candidate Ron DeSantis’ intelligence — despite the fact that he has two Ivy League degrees — during an appearance on “Cuomo Primetime” Wednesday night.
Cuomo’s panel included Steve Cortes and Angela Rye, who tore into DeSantis’ “monkey this up” comment that followed his primary election victory.
“Steve, you talked about this candidate Ron who has this quite a resume. Well, I don’t understand how you go to two Ivy League schools and end up three times as stupid. He should have never said what he said about Andrew,” Rye said.
Controversy immediately arose following DeSantis’ comments, which some have interpreted as being a racial “dogwhistle.”
DeSantis’ spokesman Stephen Lawson issued the following in response to the controversy, “Ron DeSantis was obviously talking about Florida not making the wrong decision to embrace the socialist policies that Andrew Gillum espouses. To characterize it as anything else is absurd,” Lawson said.
