Washington Post reporter Ashley Parker suggested Friday that Trump supporters are not rooted in a “reality-based community.”

During an interview on MSNBC, Parker accused President Donald Trump of slowly baiting his supporters away from the truth and essentially indoctrinating them.
“They’re straight-up lies,” MSNBC anchor Stephanie Ruhle said of what Trump says at his rallies. “Does that matter at this point with his supporters?”
“Among his supporters so far, that does not seem to matter a tremendous amount,” Parker replied. “They’re willing to accept — they’re largely willing to accept — what he says as truth.”
Parker added, however, that people who are “more rooted in a reality-based community” than Trump supporters will recognize the president’s lies.
“There’s a countervailing opinion this could backfire. While his base likes this, sort of people who are more rooted in a reality-based community, for lack of a better word, it increasingly makes him seem unhinged and can backfire on him,” Parker argued.
