Republican Sen. Ben Sasse blasted Democratic Sen. Cory Booker of New Jersey on Tuesday for trying to fundraise off of Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination to the Supreme Court while the Senate Judiciary Committee’s hearing on the confirmation was in process.

“This stuff will make us sicker, not healthier,” Sasse tweeted. “Sending out fundraising emails DURING A HEARING about opposition to a Supreme Court nominee is not the job of a Senator. It is cynical play-acting for a political base.”

The Nebraska senator’s response came after the New Jersey Democratic Party emailed constituents and media requesting campaign donations to “Stop Kavanaugh.”

“We should all be concerned about what it would mean for our country if Judge Kavanaugh is confirmed to the Supreme Court,” the email, signed by Booker, read. “I will be questioning Judge Kavanaugh at length in this week’s Judiciary Committee hearing to shed more light on his views and record.” (RELATED: Ben Sasse Slams Colorado For Violating The First Amendment)

“The America people see right through this – and the result will not be more serious deliberation,” Sasse tweeted. “The result will be (yet again) a smaller Senate, and a more tribal electorate.”

A spokesperson for Booker’s office disputed that it was a “fundraising email” since it does not ask for monetary donations. Rather, clicking the provided link gives users the ability to view ticket sales for an upcoming conference.

Just prior to the email blast, Booker tried to stonewall the confirmation and urged Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley to adjourn the hearing.
