Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearing began on Tuesday and will continue throughout the week. As expected, both Democrats and protesters continuously interrupted the hearing.

The outcries from Democrats began on Tuesday just seconds after Senate Judiciary Committee chairman Chuck Grassley began his introduction. They urged the panel to delay the hearing following the release of 42,000 documents relating to Kavanaugh’s prior service in the executive branch on Monday night. Grassley refused, and the interruptions continued. (RELATED: It Took Five Seconds For The Kavanaugh Hearing To Turn Into A Raging Dumpster Fire)

California Democrat Sen. Kamala Harris stopped Sen. Grassley mid-sentence — before he had even spoken a dozen words of introduction — to demand more time to look over those documents.

Within minutes of the start of Tuesday’s hearing, several protesters stood up in the back of the room and started yelling, interrupting Grassley’s opening remarks. Additional protests carried on throughout the day’s proceedings. (RELATED: Protesters Immediately Interrupt Second Day Of Kavanaugh Hearing)

While no one knows what will happen the rest of the week, Texas Republican Sen. John Cornyn summed up the first day by saying, “this is the first confirmation hearing for a  Supreme Court Justice that I’ve seen, basically, according to mob rule.”
