Messina made the comment on the 17th anniversary of the September 11 terror attacks during an interview with MSNBC. Messina attacked the president for tweeting about the anonymous New York Times op-ed instead of the anniversary on Tuesday morning. “You know, today on the 9/11 anniversary, with a major storm heading toward them, you know, the easiest thing to do would be non-partisan, be presidential,” Messina said. “And instead, [Trump] wakes up this morning, sends out a million different tweets and then, once again, all day, going on the defense.”

“We are 55 days before a midterm election and the White House is completely tanking their local candidates’ messages while Donald Trump goes on his usual partisan jihad,” Messina concluded.
