Air Force veteran and state Rep. Steven Negron won the Republican candidacy for New Hampshire’s 2nd Congressional District after Stewart Levenson conceded victory.

Levenson conceded the primary in a phonecall to Negron, according to U.S. News & World Report.

Negron edged a victory over Levenson and five other candidates, taking 26.3 percent of the vote at the time of reporting. Negron will face off against Democratic incumbent U.S. Rep. Ann Kuster, who ran uncontested, according to The New York Times.

Negron’s major opponent was Levenson, who was a Veterans Affairs Hospital whistleblower and holds an academic position at the Boston University School of Medicine, according to his campaign page.

Prior to Tuesday night’s primary, there was no clear front-runner, according to New Hampshire Watchdog on Sept. 10. An August poll from St. Anselm College’s New Hampshire Institute for Politics found Blankenbeker, Negron, Levenson and Burns all had name recognition around 40 percent.

Negron’s focus areas include stronger border security, upholding the Second Amendment and supporting small businesses, according to his campaign page. He was endorsed by the 28 New Hampshire House members and former Trump campaign co-chairman Fred Doucette.

Kuster plans on addressing the opioid crisis, job training for students through public-private partnerships and environmental conservation, her campaign page said. (RELATED: New Hampshire’s Governor Saved Residents Millions By Vetoing Solar Subsidies)

Republicans face an uphill battle unseating Kuster, who has been in the House since 2012, according to New Hampshire Public Radio.

She won the 2016 House Elections with 49.8 percent of the votes, according to TheNYT.
