Sean Parnell: Army Ranger, Bestselling Author, Bad Ass And Cool Guy
How does a man leak cerebral-spinal fluid from his ears and nose and still lead his men on patrols in Afghanistan? Today’s guest, bestselling author Sean Parnell, did just that when he was 24 years old.
The retired Army Ranger is a veteran of 485 consecutive days of combat in the hellish mountains of Afghanistan where he and members of the 10th Mountain Division, under his command, had to serve as bait to draw out Afghani fighters, a tale he recounted in his breakout bestselling book, “Outlaw Platoon: Heroes, Renegades, Infidels, and the Brotherhood of War in Afghanistan.” Now he’s out with his first action thriller novel, the just-published, “Man of War.”

Parnell is just your average blue collar guy who, after 9/11, was inspired to join the Army Rangers and spent 16 months in the mountains of Afghanistan fighting a war most people thought was over. We talk to him about his deployment, the harrowing first time he was shot at, why he thought it was important the world know the story, and why he doesn’t like to be called a “combat veteran.” And we do it how it should be done — over a beer. America!
Now, Parnell has taken his real-life experiences and moved them to the world of fiction, releasing his first action thriller about a special operations soldier doing what must be done to keep us safe. Sean’s reason for creating his lead character Eric Steele? He told us the genre was in need of a hero who loved the United States and what it stands for, unabashedly.
