Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer and Sen. Dianne Feinstein supported Dr. Christine Blasey Ford’s call for an investigation Tuesday night into the allegations she levied upon Brett Kavanaugh.

Their support comes after Ford’s lawyer revealed that she will not testify in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee on Monday despite their invitation. Her lawyer, Lisa Banks, said an investigation should precede any appearance in front of the committee on CNN Tuesday night. (RELATED: Kavanaugh Accuser’s Lawyer Calls For Investigations Before Senate Hearing)

“I strongly support Dr. Ford’s call for an FBI investigation before a hearing is held,” Schumer said, according to The Hill. “An immediate FBI investigation is not only consistent with precedent. It is also quite clearly the right thing to do.”

“I agree with [Ford] 100 percent that the rushed process to hold a hearing on Monday has been unfair and is reminiscent of the treatment of Anita Hill. I also agree that we need the facts before senators — not staff or lawyers — speak to witnesses,” Feinstein stated.

“We should honor Dr. Blasey Ford’s wishes and delay this hearing. A proper investigation must be completed, witnesses interviewed, evidence reviewed and all sides spoken to. Only then should the chairman set a hearing date,” she continued.  (RELATED: Feinstein Questions Truthfulness Of Kavanaugh Accuser, Immediately Back Pedals)

Despite Ford’s desire and Democrats’ support for an investigation, Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley denied pushing back Monday’s hearing.

“Nothing the FBI or any other investigator does would have any bearing on what Dr. Ford tells the committee, so there is no reason for any further delay,” Grassley’s statement from Tuesday night read.
