MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough described the firing of former FBI Director James Comey as a “foolish” mistake that made “hell rain down from above,” during a rant on “Morning Joe” Tuesday.

“[President] Donald Trump actually told the Russian foreign minister and Russia’s ambassador to the United States that in firing James Comey, he was going to get a timeout — that the pressure was going to be relieved,” Scarborough said.

Trump fired Comey in May 2017. He had also received a recommendation from Attorney General Jeff Sessions to proceed with Comey’s termination.

Scarborough said Comey’s firing breached “constitutional norms.” (RELATED: Joe Scarborough Calls Comey’s Book A ‘Strange Way To Seek Justice’)

“Since Donald and Jared [Kushner] got their way and fired James Comey, have they gotten a timeout? Or has hell rained down from above on them for that foolish, foolish move that, again, breached constitutional norms against a guy that helped elect Donald Trump,” Scarborough said.

“[Comey] wrote that letter ten days out — had that press conference that nobody has ever had, the type of political, politicized press conference in the history of the Justice Department or the FBI after deciding that somebody was not going to be indicted,” he continued.

Scarborough predicted a barrage of “legal hell” on the horizon.

“You’re not going to get a timeout if the president of the United States has his Thursday morning massacre,” he concluded. “You’re basically going to be thrust into an even deeper legal hell.”
