The Minnesota Vikings star who allegedly threatened to shoot up a Minneapolis hotel and broke into his teammate’s house earlier this month has finally spoken out.
Everson Griffen, a three-time pro bowl defensive end, was eventually transported to the hospital for a mental health exam after he’d been through a tough streak battling “demons,” according to his wife. Police say they found him disheveled and in a very troubling state rambling nonsense about angels and claimed God made him act this way. Late Thursday night, Griffen addressed his recent episode on Instagram.
“This past week’s events have raised many questions and I want to apologize to everyone who was impacted. I am currently focused on resolving personal issues with which I have been dealing for a long time. Once I have had time to address those issues, I hope to share my story with everyone,” Griffen wrote, adding he is “extremely grateful” for the outpour of support in recent days.

Griffen was noticeably absent from Thursday’s Vikings-Rams matchup in Los Angeles. Vikings coach Mike Zimmer told reporters earlier this week that “He’s always been a good model for us and he’s going through some tough times right now,” adding he wants “the best for him.”
