Louisiana Republican Sen. John Kennedy was one of the last to speak before the Senate Judiciary Committee voted to move forward with the confirmation of Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, and he had a few choice words for whoever leaked Dr. Christine Blasey Ford’s identity to the media.

WATCH:

Kennedy began by saying that he believed everyone was going to come out of this confirmation process damaged. “This has been as someone put it in an article this morning, a grotesque carnival,” he said. “In my opinion, this has been an intergalactic freak show. As far as I’m concerned, Congress has hit rock bottom and started to dig.”

But the intense public scrutiny that came with an open hearing, Kennedy noted, could have been avoided if Dr. Ford had understood that the committee was willing to come to her or if her identity had not been leaked to the media in the first place.

“To the person who leaked Dr. Ford’s letter, to the person who breached Dr. Ford’s anonymity, and to the person who did not tell her she could have avoided this by testifying privately in her home in California, you know who you are,” Kennedy chastised. “You should bow your head in shame, in my opinion, and you should hide your head in a bag every day for the rest of your natural life.”

But Kennedy wasn’t quite finished. He concluded with a Bible reference that he thought the leaker ought to read.

He said, “I don’t know if you believe in God or if you read the Bible, but there is wisdom in the passage whether you read the Bible or believe in god or not. And I’d refer you to Matthew 16:26, ‘For what is a person profited if he gains the whole world and he loses his soul.'”
