The former president of Planned Parenthood urged Texans on Tuesday to help raise money to unseat Republican Sen. Ted Cruz in November as part of a joint effort with a Democratic super PAC.

“For many years I served as the president of Planned Parenthood … and I saw first hand what happens when politicians put their own ideological agenda ahead of the health and wellbeing of women and young people,” Cecile Richards said in a video. “Frankly, that’s what Ted Cruz has done his entire political career.”

Richards is partnering with FTC PAC, short for Fire Ted Cruz, which has been raising money to elect Democratic Rep. Robert O’Rourke to replace Cruz. Since even before launching his campaign, O’Rourke has repeatedly, albeit misleadingly, touted his no-PAC guarantee, however, FTC PAC’s founder shrugged off O’Rourke’s request for corporate money to stay out of his campaign.

“[Cruz] has been one of the leaders in the fight to defund Planned Parenthood and block access to affordable health care for thousands and thousands of women in Texas,” Richards continued. “I hope you’ll do whatever you can financially to support the effort to fire Ted Cruz.” (RELATED: Ted Cruz Challenger Gets Flagged For Campaign Finance Violations)

Cruz has been a staunch supporter of the unborns’ right to life and vehemently opposed to organizations that perform abortions while receiving federal funding. Contrarily, O’Rourke has been a long-time advocate of abortion, opposing efforts to prevent the federal government from funding the controversial organization with taxpayer dollars.
