The British-born beauty Kate Winslet turns 43 years old today. She has made a name for herself as a Hollywood icon during her nearly three decades in show business.
Born in Reading, Berkshire, England, Winslet got her start acting in the U.K. drama “Dark Season” when she was just 15 years old in 1991. From there, she acted in a variety of British films such as “Sense and Sensibility” and “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.” Winslet skyrocketed to success in 2003 when she starred in the Oscar-winning drama, “Titanic.”
Though the film was not originally expected to be immensely successful, “Titanic” ended up bringing in 11 Academy Awards and became the highest grossing film of its time. It gained Winslet an Oscar nomination for Best Actress and solidified her as a household name.
Winslet went on to win an Oscar in 2008 for Best Actress for her role in “The Reader.”
