White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders brushed off Democratic lawmakers’ complaints that the FBI did not interview Dr. Christine Ford as part of its investigation into sexual assault allegations against Judge Brett Kavanaugh, Thursday morning. “The whole world watched as Dr. Ford was interviewed for hours by the individuals that have to make the decision. That’s the senators themselves,” Sanders said. “They had ample opportunity to ask any question they wanted of Dr. Ford. And if they didn’t get enough, that was their own fault because they didn’t step up to the plate and ask the questions they needed answer to.”

Sanders continued, “The idea somehow that … the FBI needs to interview her again is ludicrous. They had an opportunity to do so. They should have taken it, and if they didn’t get to ask what they wanted, it’s their own mistake.”

The FBI investigation looked into decades-old allegations of sexual assault against Kavanaugh. The main probe of the investigation focused on the accusation of Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, who alleged that he assaulted her in their teenage years. The FBI also probed the story of a woman who claimed that Kavanaugh exposed himself to her during their freshman year at Yale University.

Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley issued a statement after receiving a briefing on the FBI investigation saying, “this investigation found no hint of misconduct and the same is true of the six prior FBI background investigations conducted during Judge Kavanaugh’s 25 years of public service,” adding “it’s time to vote. I’ll be voting to confirm Judge Kavanaugh.”
