The Raw Story, a lefty site, welcomed Meghan McCain back to her conservative seat on ABC’s “The View” by painting her as a problem drinker. Monday was her first day back to the show after losing her father, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), to cancer.

Maybe Travis Gettys and the gang over at The Raw Story can dig deep into their souls and find some compassion for a 33-year-old woman who lost her father to an atrocious disease. Or perhaps they will just continue to be assholes.

Even Yashar Ali, who writes for the left-leaning HuffPost and New York Mag, wasn’t having it.

“What the hell is this BS?” asked Ali.  @Meghan McCain told a story about getting drunk with @HuntsmanAbby when she found out about her dad’s diagnosis and talked about drinking with colleagues a few times. The framing here is false and absurd.”

One follower referred to The Raw Story as the “Breitbart of the left.”

On the show, McCain told a few stories about drinking with a few of the ladies seated around the table. She also spoke of crying on Whoopi Goldberg‘s shoulder and getting mascara on her white blouses.

Another drinking outing involved co-conservative host Abby Huntsman. When McCain was first diagnosed with gleoblastoma, an obviously deadly cancer, McCain drowned her sorrows in the company of Huntsman, who was pregnant at the time. Huntsman watched her friend get drunk on Jack Daniels to the point of barfing.

McCain also spoke of how the spirit of her father lives on and about how she has been coping with her loss.

“I never really understood when I was growing up why he made me so tough,” she said. “As you know, almost to my detriment I am so tough and so strong. I realize he made me this tough so I would survive this. …Really, it is the only thing that is keeping me right now, s how tough he made me. And he did that.”

McCain can hardly be blamed for having a drink or three through her ordeal.

In late September, she tweeted this from the late theologian C.S. Lewis: “The death of a beloved is an amputation.”

McCain didn’t have any public reaction to The Raw Story. Instead, after being welcomed back by Huntsman, she wrote her, saying simply, “Love you.”
