President Donald Trump angrily reacted to increasing talk amongst the Democratic base of trying to impeach Brett Kavanaugh from the U.S. Supreme Court if they were to take power.

“Now they’re thinking about impeaching a brilliant jurist — a man that did nothing wrong, a man that was caught up in a hoax that was set up by the Democrats using the Democrats’ lawyers,” Trump said, adding, “I think it’s an insult to the American public … the American public has seen this charade and dishonesty by the Democrats.”

The president continued, “When you mention impeaching a justice of the United States Supreme Court who was a top scholar, top student, top intellect and who did nothing wrong.”

Top Democratic lawmaker in the House of Representatives Jerrod Nadler told The New York Times Friday that the House would conduct investigations into Kavanaugh’s nomination process if his party were to take control. Other lawmakers have not explicitly ruled out impeachment but say the final FBI investigation into allegations of sexual assault against Kavanaugh was not sufficient.
