President Donald Trump smirked when confronted with criticism by his former opponent Hillary Clinton of his swearing-in ceremony for Judge Brett Kavanaugh.

“What was done last night in the White House was a political rally. It further undermined the image and integrity of the court,” Clinton said, “and that troubles me greatly. It saddens me because our judicial system has been viewed as one of the main pillars of our constitutional government.”

Trump smirked at Clinton’s criticism in the Oval Office, telling reporters, “That’s why she lost. She doesn’t get it. She never did. I knew that a long time ago. Hillary never got it. That’s why she lost.”

Trump conducted a swearing-in ceremony for Kavanaugh Monday evening in the White House. He declared him “innocent” of decades-old sexual assault allegations made against him during the confirmation process and apologized to him on behalf of the nation.

“I would like to begin tonight’s proceeding differently than perhaps any other event of such magnitude,” Trump said during the ceremony. “On behalf of the nation, I want to apologize to Brett and the entire Kavanaugh family for the terrible pain and suffering you have been forced to endure.”
