Former Senior Adviser To The Clintons Tells Bill And Hillary To Step Out Of The Limelight And Give Their Speaking Fees To Charity
Former senior adviser to the Clintons, Mark Penn, said on “Fox & Friends” Friday that Bill and Hillary should withdraw from the public eye and start donating their speaking fees to charity.
Penn said it was detrimental to the Democratic party to have the Clintons front and center, especially with the midterms less than a month away. (RELATED: Former Hillary Clinton Adviser Points Out Double Standard In Mueller Investigation)
“At the moment, having the Clintons do a roadshow isn’t the best thing for the party that needs to move forward,” Penn said. “But I don’t really understand why this wouldn’t be completely for charity. Why would they go out and give a speaking tour for individuals to pay $75 to $700 to listen. That doesn’t make any sense to me.”
Penn said the Democratic Party is already in a state of disarray and has no permanent leaders in place to pull the party out of its current crisis.
“There is a lot of drift because there’s no nominee or leader of the Democratic Party,” Penn declared.
He also said Democrats like the Clintons should stop calling for insurrection and err on the side of civility.
“I think the other leaders are kind of coming in to fill in temporarily here. But they’re not doing any help. But they would help if they would frankly come out against incivility,” he concluded. “If they would come out for the kind of politics I think that people admire, instead of stoking the resistance I think that’s taking the Democrats in the wrong direction.”
