“Morning Joe” host Joe Scarborough asked on Monday if the American people were “stupid” enough to believe President Donald Trump when he said he wants to pass another tax cut before the midterm elections.

Scarborough accused Trump of “lying” about getting the next phase of his tax cut through Congress in time, and said the president must think the electorate is dumb enough to believe him.

“Let’s talk about these two clips that we played coming in. Last hour we played a clip: The president clearly lying,” Scarborough said. (RELATED: Joe Scarborough Claims Trump Never Wanted To Be President And Won’t Run In 2020)

Trump made the new tax cut promise at a rally in Nevada Saturday and said, “We’re looking at a major tax cut for middle-income people,” according to Bloomberg.

“Everybody knew he was lying. And here we have the president lying about passing a tax cut in 15 days or less — actually in 13, 12 days or less when of course it’s not going to be drafted,” Scarborough declared.

“I understand that he reads polls that show that his … that his tax cut that he passed, and then he went to Mar-a-Lago and bragged to all of his billionaire friends. Does this show just how stupid he thinks the American people are that he thinks that he can tell them he’ll pass a middle-class tax cut in the next 12, 13 days and they’ll believe him?”

NBC News national affairs analyst John Heilemann emphatically agreed with Scarborough and called the “specificity” of Trump’s lie “incredible.”

“Yeah, I think that’s probably right. The thing that’s incredible about it, the Trumpian qualities of it, the main one that I like is the specificity of the lie where he says that [Rep.] Kevin Brady is working around the clock. He’s like up all night 24/7 working on this tax plan,” Heilemann replied.
