Rap legend Ice-T was arrested Wednesday for a very weak reason.

According to TMZ, he allegedly didn’t pay for a toll in New York and failed to have registration on his McLaren car. He was arrested for evading the toll and ticketed for his lack of car registration. However, he also had seven E-Zpasses in his car, which are used to go through prepaid tolls, according to the same report. Seems like a bit of an overreaction by the police here. (RELATED: Arrest Warrant Issued For One Of The Most Famous Singers Alive. The Reason Why Is Very Troubling)

Look, I’m all for cracking down on people breaking the law when they’re violent and dangerous. At the same time, getting arrested for not paying a toll seems like a bridge way too far — especially considering the fact it looks like this was truly an accident and he had the E-Zpasses in his car. At some point, the police have to exercise a little discretion.

Now, the rapper wasn’t in custody long. TMZ reported that he was cut loose quickly and went to work on his TV show “Law & Order: SVU.” That’s not the point. The point is he shouldn’t have been arrested for something that minor at all.

I’m not sure I like where we’re at as a country if failing to register your vehicle gets you in handcuffs. Again, it’s something where writing a ticket makes sense. Getting arrested is just on a different level.

Let me know what you think in the comments. I have a feeling many of you will be agreeing.
