Oakland Raiders head coach Jon Gruden made some mind-boggling comments following his team’s 34-3 loss to the San Francisco 49ers Thursday night.

Gruden told the media the following after the embarrassing loss:

I’m just trying to get people excited about the Oakland Raiders … The Oakland Raiders is a great organization. I know it’s not looking pretty right now. I’ve heard a lot of negativity over the last six or seven months, and rightfully so. But we’re going to build a championship football team here. I know a lot of people as players, as fans, just in general, want to be a part of this.

I love Jon Gruden, but these comments are so not self-aware it’s mind-blowing to me. You’re building championship football? Nick Mullens just ran you guys off of the damn field. Things have gone terribly wrong when Derek Carr is getting paid huge stacks of cash, and Mullens is out there looking like Brett Favre.

It wasn’t even close! It was a damn massacre.

Is Oakland building championship football? It certainly doesn’t look like it from the outside. Maybe stuff is going on behind the scenes we don’t know about. I’m sure to some degree it is, but let’s not pretend for a second anything positive is happening with that franchise.

The reality is, Gruden probably knows just how much of a dumpster fire the Raiders are, but he just can’t publicly admit it. (RELATED: Jon Gruden Describing How He Lost His Virginity Might Be The Funniest Thing You Read Today)

The organization needs to do some serious soul searching. Gruden is getting paid a ton of money to bring this team to Vegas and win. Right now, it’s just not happening.
