President Donald Trump’s former lawyer claims Trump used “chilling” and “racist” language with his advisors when he was in private, Vanity Fair reported Friday.

The lawyer, Michael Cohen, has hounded Trump since signing a plea deal with federal prosecutors in August, re-registering as a Democrat in October. Cohen claimed Trump derided black people and other ethnicities.

“I told Trump that the rally looked vanilla on television. Trump responded, ‘That’s because black people are too stupid to vote for me,'” he said.

Cohen also said he remembered a years-old conversation with Trump following Nelson Mandela’s death, in which he questioned black people’s ability to lead. (RELATED: Michael Cohen Could Have Committed Bank Fraud)

“[Trump] said to me, ‘Name one country run by a black person that’s not a shithole. Or a city,'” Cohen told Vanity Fair.

He also claimed that in the late 2000s, Trump called one of his “Apprentice” contestants a “black fag” in a private conversation with Cohen, Vanity Fair reported. When asked why he didn’t quit working for the Trump organization after hearing these slurs, Cohen said he didn’t want to give up such a high-profile job. Cohen went so far as to defend Trump in August 2017 from accusations of racism on CNN.

Cohen’s plea deal has major implications for the Russia investigation’s effect on Trump’s presidency. Cohen pleaded guilty to breaking campaign finance laws in August. He also admitted to paying porn actress Stormy Daniels to not go public with her alleged affair with Trump.
