President Donald Trump called a reporter’s question about special counsel Robert Mueller “stupid,” while he fielded questions from reporters before he left for France on Friday morning.
Trump was discussing the Thousands Oaks shooting in which a man shot and killed 12 people at Borderline Bar & Grill in Thousand Oaks, California, when a reporter turned the conversation to the Mueller probe.
“Do you expect Matt Whitaker to be involved in the Russia probe?” CNN’s Abby Phillip asked.
“It’s up to him,” the president answered.
“Do you want him to rein in Robert Mueller?” Phillip followed up.
Trump responded, “What a stupid question that is. What a stupid question. But I watch you a lot, and you ask a lot of stupid questions.”
The president also addressed the White House’s revocation of Jim Acosta’s press credentials after the Wednesday press conference debacle.
He said, “When you’re in the White House, this is a very sacred place to me. This is a very special place. You have to treat the White House with respect, you have to treat the presidency with respect.” (RELATED: Trump Accuses Reporter Of Asking ‘Racist’ Question)
Trump requested and accepted Sessions’ resignation on Wednesday. The president publicly announced the decision on Twitter. With Session removed from office, the interim became his chief of staff, Whitaker.
