President Donald Trump opened a broadside attack against special counsel Robert Mueller as his legal team weighs how to respond to outstanding questions regarding the 2016 presidential election, in a series of tweets.

The president referenced the fact that Mueller was not confirmed by the U.S. Senate to his position as special counsel, telling The Daily Caller in an exclusive Oval Office interview Wednesday that “he’s heading this whole big thing, he’s not Senate confirmed.”

Trump’s legal team reportedly met in recent days to discuss how to respond to questions Mueller has posed to him regarding the 2016 presidential election. The legal team has reportedly negotiated with Mueller to restrict all questions to written answers from the president. The special counsel previously sought to interview Trump in person.

Trump also took aim at Mueller’s team for not focusing on FBI malfeasance during the 2016 election, referencing the scandals enveloping former Deputy FBI Director Andrew McCabe, former counsel Lisa Page, and former senior agent Peter Strzok.
