Every year at Christmas when I was growing up, we got at least one board game to play as a family. During the week we were off from school, we would spend hours playing the new game and others. Sometimes we would play as a whole family. Sometimes we would play with friends. Regardless, it was always one of the highlights of the holidays. I have great memories of all the laughs we shared. For me, it was about fun and spending time together. My mom told me she encouraged the games for other reasons as well. She read that games help kids learn patience by having them follow directions and take turns. I never thought of it that way, and to be honest I can think of some moments where those concepts were a struggle for my siblings and me. But, it does make sense.
