An unidentified person lost a small fortune betting on the Seattle Seahawks to beat the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday.
ESPN reported the following:
A bettor at MGM placed two money-line bets totaling $569,000 on the Seattle Seahawks to beat the San Francisco 49ers. According to MGM sportsbook supervisor Scott Shelton, the first bet was for $235,000 at -230 odds. The book bumped up the price to -250 and then took another $334,000 on the Seahawks from the bettor. The 49ers won 26-23 in overtime.
Ladies and gentlemen, that’s a ton of money to lose on a single game. A sickening amount of money, in fact.
You can buy a house in most places of America for $569,000. Hell, you could buy an insanely nice boat for just north of half a million dollars.
Yet, this unnamed person decided to wager it on the Seahawks getting a win. I don’t blame whoever did it. I thought Seattle would roll San Francisco. (RELATED: Here Are The Best Moments From Week 15 Of The NFL Season)
Obviously, that’s not even close to what happened.

The only upside I can see here is that you’re probably doing just fine financially if you’re able to throw down the cost of house on a single NFL game. That doesn’t seem like somebody who is only one or two steps away from bankruptcy. Not at all.
I sure hope this guy learned his lesson. Always accept the fact the unexpected might happen in pro football.
