Movies featuring Samuel L. Jackson have made several billion dollars at the box office.
The Hollywood Reporter wrote the following Wednesday on his career:
His 120-plus movies — from tentpoles (Jurassic Park and the Star Warsprequels) to art house hits like Pulp Fiction to campy horror neo-classics like Snakes on a Plane — have earned a grand total of $5.76 billion at the U.S. box office (well ahead of Harrison Ford’s $4.96 billion and Tom Hanks’ $4.6 billion), and a staggering $13.3 billion worldwide.
Of course, a big chunk of those billions comes from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (nine of the highest-grossing films of the past decade), in which Jackson plays Avengers boss Nick Fury, a role he took up almost as a lark in 2008 and is about to reprise yet again in Captain Marvel, opening March 8.
More than $13 billion! Are you kidding me? That is so much damn money, and it’s not like he’s only making films designed to cash in.
He has starred in some outstanding moves over the years. Anybody who didn’t love “The Hateful Eight” just doesn’t understand great cinema. He and Walton Goggins were both incredible in that movie.
Of course, as THR points out, he’s also played some smaller roles in movies that have blown up at the box office. The “Star Wars” prequels and the “Avengers” movies are all great examples of that situation.
That’s not to say he wasn’t great in those movies, despite being in a smaller role. Mace Windu was an all-time great “Star Wars” character.
There’s also no question at all that Jackson will always be remembered as one of the greatest actors to ever live.
You don’t put up north of $13 billion at the box office if people aren’t putting you in movies for a reason. Clearly, he’s got a major draw.
He’s also got several years likely left in the acting tank, which means that number will only continue to rise. What an incredible career and accomplishment by Jackson. He’s one of the baddest dudes on the planet for a reason.
