Memphis Tigers basketball coach Penny Hardaway had an incredible rant about jealousy from his rivals.

Hardaway told the press the following Monday when discussing rival coaches, according to a Tuesday report from ESPN:

I’m getting used to this as a coach because it’s a little jealousy from a lot of these coaches around the country. I do understand that because we are NBA players trying to come back, and we didn’t have any experience as college coaches. So we didn’t quote, unquote, “Pay our dues.” So the coaches and their so-called boys that are in the media, they’re going to always throw jabs at us.

I love these comments. I absolutely love them. He’s not really being all that subtle, and it’s refreshing. Imagine being a rival of Hardaway and then him just dropping the fact you’re jealous because you weren’t an NBA star like him.

That’s what I like to call a power move in this business.

Oh, you don’t like the way Hardaway coaches? He played in the NBA. You don’t like the way he recruits? Did you know he played in the NBA?

You don’t like getting your ass kicked by him? Well, he did play in the NBA, and that’s important to remember. (RELATED: Tennessee Remains Number One In Latest AP College Basketball Poll, Wisconsin Is Back In The Top 25)

These quotes from the former Orlando Magic honestly sound like something I would say, and I’m not sure that’s a compliment.

I have no idea how good Memphis will be for extended periods of time under Hardaway, but I do love his attitude. I can tell you that much for sure.

There’s nothing better than a college basketball coach with a little edge to him.
