Christian Hackenberg’s pro-football debut didn’t go well.

The former highly touted NFL prospect is now on the Memphis Express in the AAF, and he bombed Sunday in a 26-0 loss to the Birmingham Iron.

Not only did he play terribly, but he didn’t even crack 100 passing yards. It’s starting to become a hell of a lot clearer why he never took a snap for the Jets after being a second-round pick.

He threw an interception with a release that I don’t even know how to describe. It looked more like a pass from a young kid than former NFL QB and Penn State star. (RELATED: San Diego Fleet Quarterback Mike Bercovici Suffers Brutal Hit During AAF Opener)

Seriously, what the hell was that pass? He pretty much side-armed it from an angle that made no sense. If that’s how Hackenberg throws a ball these days, then he’s never getting back to the NFL.

I can’t believe how bad he looked on the field.

The AAF is a much higher caliber of play than a lot of people might realize, and Hackenberg clearly isn’t ready after week one.
