There will be only one “Game of Thrones” spinoff coming to HBO anytime soon.

Fans of the hit series were optimistic that we’d be getting a ton of new content when the spinoffs were first reported. It sounded like there might be too much “Game of Thrones” to consume. Well, that isn’t really the case anymore. (RELATED: These Are The Sexiest Photos Of ‘Game Of Thrones‘ Star Emilia Clarke On The Internet)

USA Today reported the following details Saturday on the upcoming prequel:

The network developed five potential spinoffs and will begin shooting a pilot episode for one of them in June, shortly after “Thrones” wraps its eight-season run, said Casey Bloys, HBO’s programming chief, at the Television Critics Association.

It stars Naomi Watts and is set in Westeros, thousands of years before the current series (so don’t look for any current characters), and is being shepherded by Jane Goldman (“Kingsman: The Golden Circle”). If it goes forward (which seems a relatively safe bet), it would begin production in 2020 and air later that year or beyond, Bloys said.

But he’s tabled the other four “Thrones” projects for now, he told USA TODAY. “I don’t know that we’ll do another one; I’m just not sure.” The Watts project “was the one that, for us, rose above the others and made the most sense for us.”

Look, I’m not going to complain. I’m happy with any “GoT” content I can get my hands on, but only getting one spinoff when you were expecting five is a bit of a gut punch.

It’s kind of like taking an eight to prom when you thought you were going with a 10. Sure, it’s still cool and everybody pays attention, but it’s also a bit of a letdown. All the guys out there know exactly what I’m talking about.

Will I still watch? You can bet every penny you have that I’ll be watching. There’s no doubt at all in my mind. I’ll soak up every second.

Yet, in the back of mind, I’ll always remember that there could have been much more. That’s a bit of a tough pill, but I suppose we will persist.

Make sure to tune in Apr. 14 to see the eighth and final season on HBO. It should be an outstanding conclusion.
