Conor McGregor announced the end of his fighting career early Tuesday morning on Twitter.
The Irish-born superstar tweeted that he “decided to retire” and wished all his “old colleagues well going forward in competition.” (SLIDESHOW: These UFC Women Really Hate Wearing Clothes)
Hey guys quick announcement, I’ve decided to retire from the sport formally known as “Mixed Martial Art” today.
I wish all my old colleagues well going forward in competition.
I now join my former partners on this venture, already in retirement.

UFC President Dana White released a statement supporting McGregor’s decision and said he was looking “forward to seeing him be as successful outside of the octagon as he was in it.” (SLIDESHOW: These Are The Greatest Ronda Rousey Photos On The Internet)

McGregor has lost his last two fights. He lost to Floyd Mayweather in boxing, and then got beat by Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 229.

I guess we’ll have to see how long this retirement lasts for, but I’m guessing there’s still a very real chance McGregor fights again at some point.
Yes, he’s made generational money at this point, but I’m not sure he wants to go out on two straight losses.

If this is the end of the road, then McGregor had one hell of a ride. He dominated the UFC for several years, made a ton of cash and became a global icon.
I’m not sure what more you could ask for.
