The Chicago Fraternal Order of Police joined a group of protesters outside Cook County State Attorney Kim Foxx’s office in Chicago on Monday over the decision to drop charges against actor Jussie Smollett.

Crowds gathered to protest Foxx’s dropping of all charges against Smollett after he allegedly staged a hate crime during which he claimed two men in MAGA hats assaulted him, yelled racial and homophobic slurs, and put a noose around his neck in January.

Information showing the actor’s alleged relationship with the assailants later emerged, calling his story into question.

The case was dropped March 26.

The Chicago Fraternal Order of Police joined the protests against Foxx and her part in the Smollett trial. The police order renewed demands to investigate Foxx and her possible interference in the Smollett case, calling her office’s behavior “highly, highly suspicious.” (RELATED: Smollett Case Was Inadvertently Sealed, State Attorney Says)

Foxx said she welcomed an external review of how her department handled the case in a Friday op-ed for the Chicago Tribune.

“There were specific aspects of the evidence and testimony presented to the office that would have made securing a conviction against Smollett uncertain,” she wrote.

” … as I’ve said since before I was elected, we must separate the people at whom we are angry from the people of whom we are afraid,” she continued. “I am angry at anyone who falsely reports a crime. I am afraid when I see a little girl shot dead while sitting on her mother’s lap. I am afraid when I see a CPD commander slain by a four-time felon who was walking the streets.”

Foxx’s office did not immediately respond to a request for comment from The Daily Caller News Foundation.
