Jennifer Lopez admitted that she was definitely “weary” to get engaged and “married again ” after everything” she had been through following three previous marriages.

“Yeah, I was very weary after everything I’ve been through [to get married again],” the 49-year-old singer and actress shared with Sirius XM, per Fox News Thursday.

But after she had dated Alex Rodriguez for “a year in,” she started thinking it could actually happen again and was ready to get serious.

“I was just sussing it out until then,” the “Second Act” star said. “I was like, ‘I don’t know, maybe yes, maybe no, I really love him, I like him.’ Everything just seemed almost too perfect too soon, so I was like, ‘hey wait, what’s happening?’ … When it happened I think it was the right time. We both knew.” (RELATED: 25 Times Jennifer Lopez Proved She Doesn’t Age [SLIDESHOW])

It all comes on the heels of reports that Rodriguez surprised the “Jenny From The Block” hitmaker last month during a trip to the Bahamas when he got down on one knee and popped the question. (SLIDESHOW: 142 Times Josephine Skriver Barely Wore Anything)

“It’s great to have a best friend and a partner that you can really build with, and I just feel like with Alex and I, that’s what it’s like. We’re both really similar,” Lopez explained.  (SLIDESHOW: 71 Times Samantha Hoopes Stripped Down)

“Having somebody who understands you from the inside as far as, ‘I really want to work hard, I really love what I do, and I really want to work hard at it and understand that — it doesn’t mean I don’t love you, we love each other and we’re doing this together,'” she added.

Lopez continued, “It’s one of those things, that you meet a like-minded person who is trying to be the best they can be and always trying to grow, and then they help you grow and you help them grow. I’m better here, he’s better there and then together we’re better together.”

Later, the “Selena” star joked that at her home it’s “baseball all the time.”

“I mean … it’s baseball. All. The. Time,” the singer shared. “My dad loved baseball so I grew up watching sports. And I played softball. Which he loves to make fun of me for.”
