“Today” show co-anchor Carson Daly apologized Monday after a joke about “baby making juice” in the anchors’ mugs apparently fell flat with fans.

Daly, 45, returned from vacation to find that co-host Hoda Kotb had adopted a baby and co-host Jenna Bush Hager had announced she was expecting, according to Page Six. He posted a photo of the “Today” show mug on his Instagram to congratulate the two saying, “If you’ve ever wondered what’s in our @todayshow mugs…now you know!”

The photo of the mug said “Baby Making Juice.” This part of the photo struck some fans the wrong way as meteorologist Dylan Dreyer had also opened up about her miscarriage and fertility issues Monday. Dreyer had opened up about her recent issues with getting pregnant early in the “Today” show segment. (RELATED: Jenna Bush Hager Reveals She’s Expecting Her Third Child)

One fan wrote, “This ‘it’s in the water’ and ‘baby boom’ talk is unbelievably insensitive to Dylan,” one fan commented on the post. “You can be happy for others without insinuating that getting pregnant is easy.”

Others commented “it seems tone deaf given the 3rd hour” and “I think you can congratulate and be happy for your colleagues without being insensitive to those close by who are struggling.”

Some fans, like the latter above, defended Daly’s joke, writing, “Carson, it’s clear to most of us how close the Today show family is. your post about Hoda and Jenna was pure joy… family means sharing all of life…all the struggles AND all the happiness…Dylan knows your heart”

Another said: “Carson I had two miscarriages before my now twenty seven year old daughter was born and I took no offense in your post! We all know how much you love Dylan!”

Daly responded that the post “had nothing to do with [pregnancy] being ‘easy.’ More that I left for a few days & 2 colleagues announced pregnancies. Dylan’s article is amazing and I love her to death!”
