Suspended Patriots wide receiver Josh Gordon will be sticking with the team if he’s allowed to play in 2019.

According to ESPN late Tuesday afternoon, the talented but troubled NFL star signed his restricted free agent tender for a base salary of just more than $2 million.

He is currently serving an indefinite suspension for violating the league’s substance abuse policy.

Now, we have to wait to see if Gordon will even play in 2019 or ever again. He has been suspended multiple times since entering the league, and has repeated off-the-field issues.

At the current moment, playing in the NFL should be the last thing Gordon is focused on. If he can’t get things going correctly in his personal life, then football will never work.

He needs to take care of one thing at a time. Football can’t be the top priority for him given all the other struggles he has. (RELATED: Patriots Receiver Josh Gordon Is Currently In Rehab)

I hope he does make it back to the league. It’d be a hell of a comeback story. However, the fact he couldn’t make it without getting suspended given all the support the Patriots gave him is pretty telling.

The Patriots are a winning organization with all the infrastructure you’d ever need to be successful. It’s not a good look he still managed to get suspended after going there from the Browns. It’s not a good look at all.

We’ll see where things shake out as the preseason rolls around. I don’t expect to see Gordon off his suspension anytime soon.
