Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray is the early favorite to win the NFL’s Offensive Rookie of the Year award.

According to odds from BetOnline.ag, Murray is at the top with 5/2 odds and he’s followed by Washington Redskins passer Dwayne Haskins at 7/2. (RELATED: Arizona Cardinals Select Kyler Murray First Overall In The NFL Draft)

I actually think Haskins is the smarter play here. There’s no guarantee at all Murray’s transition to the NFL is smooth, and it’s not like the Cardinals are stacked with talent.

It could take some serious time for Kliff Kingsbury’s experiment to pay dividends.

However, Haskins could find himself spinning it in better fashion from day one. He’s got a cannon for an arm and is used to play in a system that’s easier to replicate in the NFL.

Plus, the Redskins have some serious options in the running game. That’ll only help take pressure off of Haskins when it comes to opening it up downfield.

If I was going to throw down money on this bet, I wouldn’t even hesitate to take Haskins at 7/2 before betting on Murray.

It just seems to me like his transition will be easier than Murray. That says nothing about the long term, but rookie of the year isn’t about the long term. It’s about 16 games, and I like Haskins right now for the leader in the odds.
