Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa is the heavy favorite to be the first player selected in the 2020 draft.

According to the Action Network, the Crimson Tide’s gunslinger is 1-7 right now, and Oregon QB Justin Herbert and Georgia QB Jake Fromm are tied for second at 7-1.

I’d be shocked if anybody was favored ahead of Tua, but that doesn’t mean he’s guaranteed to be a success. Let’s just all be honest with one another for a second on this one. (RELATED: Clemson Favored To Win College Football National Title, Georgia And Alabama Follow)

He has a history of getting hurt, and he didn’t show up very well in the biggest game of the year for Alabama. These are the facts. He got played right out of the stadium by Clemson and Trevor Lawrence.

I know people may want to debate me or call me biased because I recognize the SEC for what it is. That’s fine. I can handle it, but I’m not going to stop pointing out Tua has some flaws.

Is he talented? Yes, he’s incredibly skilled, but you can’t throw the ball if you have a bum ankle. That’s just a fact. Any NFL team that selects him is rolling the dice on whether or not he can stay healthy.

If he’s healthy, then he’ll do very well at the next level. However, there’s a very real chance he could struggle with injuries.

Call me crazy all you want, but Alabama fans know deep down I’m correct. I’m not saying he won’t pan out. He almost certainly will, but we shouldn’t be afraid to look at the full picture.

Luckily, we have an entire season of college football ahead of us before we even have to start worrying about the draft.

It’s going to be an electric ride for all of us.
