Cleveland Browns receiver Odell Beckham Jr. has clarified recent comments about his squad becoming the new Patriots.

The talented wide receiver had told GQ he wanted to turn Cleveland into the “new Patriots.” Obviously, that was met with a bit of laughter and skepticism. Now, the former Giants star is tamping down expectations with his new team. (RELATED: New York Giants Trade Odell Beckham Jr. To The Cleveland Browns)

Beckham recently wrote the following on his Instagram story, according to Cleveland.com:

Just to clarify, I will always aspire to be great. I haven’t reached that point in the NFL but that’s what we all chase and I’m going to continue to work to help the Browns become great. [I] never meant the Browns are the new Patriots or going to be the new Patriots. I just have great respect for what they’ve done but definitely recognize the work that has to be done to get there. There’s nothing wrong with having aspirations, and who wouldn’t aspire to be part of an organization that is 12-4, 11-5 and in the playoffs and playing for Super Bowls on the regular?

I can actually respect the hell out of Beckham for wanting to copy what the Patriots have done, but he should try to win a few games first.

I’m sure most of you are expecting me to trash OBJ and the Browns. I’d never trash anybody for aspiring to be great. That’s the attitude everybody should have, but I will say that his comments mean nothing until he does something on the field.

It’s all just talk until the Browns win some games, find themselves in the playoffs and make a deep run in the playoffs. Until that happens, nothing anybody says in Cleveland is worth anything.

That might sound a bit harsh, but it’s the reality of the situation. When you’re a loser franchise, you remain a loser franchise until you change it.

The 2019 season sure is going to be a fun one. We’ll have to wait and see if the Browns show up and meet expectations. I wouldn’t bet against them, but I’m not buying stock until I see some results on the field.
