Detroit Lions rookie tight end T.J. Hockenson sounds like he’s ready to get to work and win some games.

Hockenson, who was the eighth pick in the draft, said the following Tuesday, according to the team’s website:

We’re all trying to get better every day. This is a job – the best job on earth. We’re all trying to go to work and do our job. Competition every day is very high. You’re in the highest level of the game. You have to come to work every day and go to work, compete for a job, compete for the team. We want to be the best team we can be.

This is music to my ears. Get Hockenson, Matthew Stafford and the rest of the offense to work. Get the ball rolling and don’t slow down until we have a Lombardi Trophy at the stadium.

This is what Big Ten work ethic is all about. Hockenson is an Iowa kid, and we all know the Hawkeyes are a pillar of the Big Ten. (RELATED: Detroit Lions Draft Iowa Tight End T.J. Hockenson 8th Overall)

Most rookies come in thinking they’re the king of the world. That doesn’t fly in the midwest. In the midwest we’re a bunch of gritty and tough dudes who are hardened in the brutal winters.

That’s the kind of mentality we need in Detroit. That’s the kind of mentality that will win us a Super Bowl. I love everything about Hockenson’s outlook.

I really can’t wait to see what this young man does on the field with Matthew Stafford. He’s got a massive body, which will provide Stafford a gigantic target to throw to.

If we can get the field opened up, then there’s no limit to what we can do when it comes to moving the ball and scoring points.

Luckily for us, Hockenson sounds like he has a great attitude, and that’s a great first step.
