Washington Redskins rookie quarterback Dwayne Haskins is preparing like he’ll be the starter Week 1 for the team.

Haskins, who was the 15th pick in the 2019 draft, said the following about his preparation, according to ProFootballTalk Tuesday:

I’ll be ready for whatever the coaches want from me, whether that’s starting right away, next year or through the season. I’m going to prepare like I’m the starter. That’s me in the weight room, me in the meeting rooms, me with the younger guys, me with the older guys. Every opportunity is an opportunity for me to show that I’m the guy. That’s what I’m working on.

I’ve said this about a million times, and I’ll say it again. The Redskins didn’t draft Haskins to sit on the bench. They drafted him to win games and throw touchdown passes. (RELATED: Washington Redskins Will Let Dwayne Haskins Compete For The Starting Job)

He can’t do that if he’s riding the pine. Add in the fact the Redskins don’t have much at the position other than Case Keenum and Colt McCoy, and our guy Haskins is primed and ready to get plenty of snaps.

At the very least, the team will give him every single opportunity to win the starting job. Keenum might take the first snaps week one, but Haskins will eventually take over sooner than later.

There may be some critics out there, and I even know plenty of Redskins fans who don’t think the former Ohio State star will pan out.

I understand the fact he only played one year of college football as a starter. I totally get the concern, but the young man can absolutely spin it.

The reality of the situation is he’ll likely be starting within the first few weeks of the season. Haskins needs to prepare like he’s the starter because any other mindset would be foolish.

Trust me, this guy is going to do well in the NFL. I can sense it in the air.
