Arizona Cardinals star Patrick Peterson has been suspended for the first six games of the 2016 season.

According to ESPN Thursday, Peterson was suspended after he violated the NFL’s performance-enhancing drug policy. What the talented cornerback did to get himself suspended is “confidential” at this time.

According to the same report, he’ll lose nearly $4 million due to the suspension. (RELATED: Arizona Cardinals Select Kyler Murray First Overall In The NFL Draft)

This is a gigantic hit for the Cardinals. Peterson is a lockdown corner and one of the best defensive players in the entire league.

Now, he’s been relegated to the bench and is going to lose a ton of money along the way. It’s too bad we don’t know what he’d do. I’d love to know what caused the NFL to drop this suspension on him.

Peterson has always seemed like a straight shooter. I’m a little bit stunned he got himself slammed with such a big suspension.

Six games is certainly no joke.

It also sucks for the Cardinals this suspension got handed down after the draft. If this happened a month ago, Arizona could have prepared to find a short term replacement.

Now, they don’t have Peterson and will either have to look to free agency or on the depth chart to fill the massive hole left by his suspension.

The Cardinals were already facing an uphill battle with a rookie quarterback and first-time coach. Now they don’t have their best defensive player.

It’s absolutely not a position you want to be in if you’re a fan of the Cardinals.
