Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell sounds like he’s going to be making some big changes with quarterback Matthew Stafford.

Bevell told the team’s website the following about his plans for the Detroit’s star gunslinger:

I think I’m going to ask Matthew to do things he hasn’t done before. Try to challenge him in a way that, I think, can push him to get better But then, obviously, I need to tailor things for him to make sure that what he feels like he does well we’re able to do as well.

I really like the sound of this, and Lions fans everywhere should feel the exact same way. The offense is now loaded with weapons, and that means we have to open the playbook up as much as possible.

Bevell declined to go into specifics, which was a smart decision, but I’m not really sure what we haven’t already asked Stafford to do.

Are we going to have him run the option? I really hope that’s not what Bevell is talking about, but you never know. (RELATED: Detroit Lions Quarterback Discusses The New Offense. Prepare For Defenses To Start Panicking)

What the Lions need to do is get rookie tight end T.J. Hockenson running all over the field as a monster target for Stafford, open up space for the other receivers and keep Kerryon Johnson hot as a running threat. Our star quarterback will take care of the rest.

It’s not rocket science. It’s simply running an offense, and Bevell already won one Super Bowl doing his job with Seattle.

Trust me, there are big things in the air this year for my Lions. Last year was incredibly disappointing, but things are looking up.

We just need to let Stafford be Stafford. Rely on his big arm, and we’ll be just fine. There’s no need to get super fancy or anything else unnecessary.

Week 1 is against Arizona. Let’s get to work and silence all our critics. The Lions are going to drop the hammer in 2019. You best believe that.
