Actor Taye Diggs admitted he thinks Jussie Smollett deserves another shot on the Fox show “Empire.”

Diggs appeared on “Inside The Black Actor’s Studio” where he said the decision to not have Smollett return after the alleged hate crime hoax was made too quickly, according to a report published Tuesday by Deadline.

“If I am being honest, the smart thing would be to bring him back and, and let it interweave it into the, into the show, you know?” Diggs said. (RELATED: Chicago Police Department Releases Jussie Smollett 911 Call)

“I feel like, people, I may get in trouble for saying this, but they’re so quick to just, uh, to leave, to leave these people. You know what I mean?” he added. “So quick to, to fire them, so quick to kind of, you know, throw them away as opposed to, you know, taking their time and, maybe letting it, let it, let it work toward, you know, the program or the job, or, you’d probably get to the bottom of it if he, if he stuck around.”

Creator Lee Daniels recently clarified on the status of Smollett after reports surfaced that he would be worked into the second season of “Empire.”

“Jussie will NOT be returning to Empire,” Daniels wrote.

Smollett was charged with 16 counts of disorderly conduct for allegedly lying to the police about an alleged hate crime attack on himself. The charges were later dropped due to Smollett’s previous community service.
