Ted Cruz confirmed on Twitter that he was, in fact, Beto O’Rourke’s father, mocking left-wing fantasy that he represents the persona of Darth Vader.
The joke originates from a tweet by Nate Cohn, a New York Times Writer, in which he says, “For about a year now, I’ve been comparing Beto to Luke Skywalker. He’s the famous hero, for Democrats, of an epic of good versus evil, against one of the greatest villians of all time. Darth Vader, Ted Cruz; Star Wars in a Galaxy far away; Texas Senate in the Trump midterm.”

Michael Li from the Brennan Center Democracy Program, reacted with shock at Cohn’s ingenious revelation:

Ted Cruz finally jumped and ended all speculation surrounding his parental lineage to Beto O’Rourke, confirming that he is Beto’s daddy. (RELATED: Ted Cruz Squares Off With Chuck Todd Over The Threat Of Space Pirates)

Cruz also responded simply, “Yup,” to a follow-up tweet asking, “Does that mean Beto’s grandfather killed JFK?”

The Texas Senator appears to enjoy using Twitter for light-hearted fun every once in a while. Last year, Cruz hopped on the widely popular online meme that he is the Zodiac Killer.

He has also used the platform to document his long-running refrigerator feud with Republican Nebraska Sen. Ben Sasse.
