According to a new USA Today poll released Thursday, 57% of Republicans surveyed agree with President Donald Trump when he said that “Progressive Democrat Congresswomen” should, “go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came from.”

Although the USA Today/Ipsos poll found support for Trump’s tweets among Republican voters, it also indicated a majority of Americans, 68%, found them offensive. (RELATED: Trump’s Attacks On Progressive ‘Squad’ Continue)

Overall, 59% or respondents called the president’s tweets “un-American.”

The four women, a group of Democrats dubbed “the squad” by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, objected to Trump’s remarks at a Friday news conference with Michigan Democratic Rep. Rashida Tlaib calling Trump’s remarks a “continuation of his racist xenophobic play book” while saying again that she wants to impeach the president.

Trump did not identify the congresswomen by name, but it is believed that he was referring to New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, New Jersey Rep. Ayanna Pressley, Michigan Rep. Rashida Tlaib and Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar. Only Omar was not born in the United States.

When asked at the Friday news conference about the allegations made by President Trump that she was a communist and supported al-Qaeda, Omar refused to answer the question.

“And so I will not dignify it with an answer, because I know that every single Islamaphobe, every single person who is hateful, who is driven by an ideology of other-ing as this president is, rejoices in us responding to that,” Omar responded. (RELATED: Ilhan Omar Blows Off Al-Qaeda, Mocks Americans For Fearing Them In Recently Surfaced Video)

USA Today describes the poll as having “a credibility interval plus or minus 5.6 percentage points for Democrats, 5.5 percentage points for Republicans, and 10.5 percentage points for Independents.”
