Democratic 2020 candidate Joe Biden snapped at an Iowa voter on Tuesday, telling the man to “go vote for someone else” after he asked the former vice president not to support building new pipelines.
The man said that he would support Biden in the general election against President Donald Trump, but that he planned to support billionaire Tom Steyer in the Democratic primary.

“I’m going to support you if you win the nomination because we’ve got to get rid of Trump, but what are we going to do about climate change?” the man asked Biden.
“You say you’re against pipelines, but then you want to replace these gas lines. That’s not going to work.”
Biden replied: “You need to go vote for somebody else,” adding, “you’re not going to vote for me in the primary.”
“I’m going to vote for you in the general if you treat me right,” the man said.

Biden then inaccurately guessed which of his Democratic rivals the man supported in the primaries.
“Now, you believe that Bernie can do something by 2030,” he said.
“I’m actually supporting Tom Steyer,” the man interjected.
“Tom Steyer? Well, that’s good,” Biden replied.

“He said he’d vote for the Dem in the general b/c he knows how important it is to beat Trump. We need immediate action on climate. If you don’t agree, happy to talk @ debate. But don’t take it out on voters we need to win in Nov.”
